Makhar With Paper Roll And Tissue Rolls

You Will Need:

This Makhar / Ganpati Makhar is made in a rather innovative manner and is sure to add that festive look this season. Ganpati decoration ideas at home can be a a way to add that special customised look and feel to your festive decor. Paper folding techniques can be limitless when it comes to paper craft that can be experimented during festival decorations.

STEP 1
Take recycled newspapers. Cut the full sheet into half. Take the half sheet and roll it into thin flat strips about 1" broad. Stick the ends with Fevicol MR. Make about 110 such strips.
STEP 2
Take each newspaper strip and start weaving in an alternate manner (in a warp and weft) the weaving should approximately measuring 10” x 10" in size to form a square mat.
STEP 3
Take recycled magazine papers. Roll the paper with a barbeque stick and secure the ends with Fevicol MR.
STEP 4
Make about 160 paper sticks.
STEP 5
Take recycled tissue paper roll. Cut the roll into half with a paper cutter. You will need about 8 such rolls.
STEP 6
Take the bunch of magazine sticks which we have made. Use tissue rolls on both the ends of the bunched sticks to keep them in place to form the pillar of the makhar. Secure the tissue rolls with Fevicol MR. Leave it to dry.
STEP 7
Take thin flat strips, roll it further to make rings out of it. Join the rings to make the mat out of it with fevicol MR. You will need about 45 rings to make the mat. Border the ring mat with paper strips using Fevicol MR. Refer to the main image.
STEP 8
Take thin flat strips, roll it further to make rings out of it. Stick the ends by securing it with Fevicol MR. Make sure that you have to make 8 such rings wich are hollow from the inner side, further to insert the pillars to make them stand.
STEP 9
Take thin flat strips, roll it further to make rings out of it. Join the ring with Fevicol MR and border them with paper strips using Fevicol MR. Refer to the main image. Make big and small sized rings to create the shikhara / gopura of the makhar / the top part of the makhar.
STEP 10
Arrange and stick the rings from big to small with Fevicol MR. Refer to the main image.
STEP 11
Take paper strips, cut them in elongated triangular shapes.
STEP 12
Roll the triangular paper strips to make the beads out of it. Secure the ends of the beads with Fevicol MR. Make about 100 beads.
STEP 13
Paint the beads with Fevicryl - Water Based - Glass Colours - Sea Blue 853, Pink 856 and Orange 860. Let it dry.
STEP 14
String the beadsthrough the thread. Dangle the beads by sticking the foil mirrors on the thread using Fevicol MR.
STEP 15
Assemble the makhar appropriately using Fevicol MR. Let it dry thoroughly.
STEP 16
Paint the makhar in an antique gold shade using Fevicryl Acrylic Colour - Black 02 and Fevicryl Acrylic Colour Pearl Metallic - Gold 352. Let it dry. Dangle the decorative bead strands on the three sides of the makhar using a thread.
