Athangudi tiles are heritage tiles from Tamil Nadu. They are handmade and made from a mix of sand, coloured oxided, jelly and cement with beautiful patterns stenciled on each one of them. Learn to paint these unique and vibrant patterns on a substrate of your choice in this workshop.
STEP 1 : Source the base material
- Take wooden trays.
- We are going to paint the trays with the traditional Karaikudi tile designs on them.
- Take A3 white paper draw different Karaikudi tile patterns for 2 different trays in the size of the tray.
STEP 2 : Trace the design.
- Paint the base of the tray with Acrylic Colour White 27.
- Let it dry.
- Trace the same design on the base with yellow carbon paper.
STEP 3 : Paint the design
- Paint the design with Acrylic Colours Black 02, Crimson 04, Dark Brown 05, Golden Yellow 09, Sap Green 21, Ultramarine Blue 23 and White 27.
- Leave it to dry completely.
