Decorative Plates With Jharoka Designs

You Will Need:

Description :
Have some old plates to spare. Make these lovely jharoka plates with Fevicryl Mouldit, Glass Colours and Modge Podge and they can be a welcome addition to any gallery wall.

STEP 1 : Select the base
• Take 3 Aluminum plates of 6” diameter in sizes.
STEP 2 : Cover the plates with tissue papers
• Take A4 size tissue papers; cover the plates with the tissue by sticking it with Fabric Glue. • Let it dry completely.
STEP 3 : Making Jharokhas
• Take Mouldit resin base and hardener; mix it thoroughly to make even dough.
STEP 4 : Rolling the dough
• Take the dough; roll it to make the medium thin slab with rolling pin. Leave it till semi dry.
STEP 5 : Moulding the jharokha
• Draw the outline of the jharokha and cut along the outlines neatly with a paper cutter. • Take some dough to make and depict the carved design of the jharokhas. Take some clay roll it to make the coils and a few tear drop shapes to make the petals of the flower and thick coil to make the pillars around the window. • Create the texture with clay carving tools. • Arrange and decorate the jharokha by sticking the pillars, the petals to form the flower and bordered the window with the coils using Fabric Glue. Let it dry.
STEP 6 : Make 3 jharokhas
• Similarly make 3 such windows with lotus flower and coil design with Mouldit. • Leave it aside to dry completely.
STEP 7 : Drawing the design on the plate
• Take the tissue covered Aluminum plates paint it with the base coat of Acrylic Colour White 27. Let it dry. • Take A4 papers, draw three different jali designs inspired from the Mughal Architecture on it, leaving space for the jharokhas in the center. • Trace the same design on the plates with yellow carbon paper.
STEP 8 : Outlining the design
• Take one plate and outline the design with 3 D Outliners Non Sticky Pearl Metallic Bronze 355 by leaving the centre further for sticking the clay Jharokha. • Let it dry.
STEP 9 : Painting the design
• Take the water based glass colours of your choice. Inter-mix the shades to create new shades, here Crystal Green 854, Orange 860 White 858 and Brown 855 are used to paint the design. • Paint the centre of the design with the pastel shade of Yellow made by mixing Acrylic Colour Chrome Yellow 03 and White 27. • Similarly paint the other two plates. • Let it dry.
STEP 10 : Decoupage
• Take two other plates and paint the centre with shade of brown made by mixing Acrylic Colour Burnt Sienna 01 and Orange 17 and the other with light shade of green made by mixing Sap Green 21 and White 27. Let it dry. • Take the Colour Prints of queens from the traditional Miniature Paintings. • Cut the images accordingly to fit in the centre of the window. • Stick the faces using Modge Podge Gloss evenly by removing the air pockets neatly. • Leave it to dry.
STEP 11 : Finishing
• Take the clay Jharokhas; paint it with Antique Gold Colour Made by mixing Acrylic Colour Black 02 and Pearl Metallic Gold 352. Let it dry. • Stick the Jharokhas appropriately with Fabric Glue onto the plates. • Let it dry. • Apply 2 to 3 coats of Modge Podge Gloss on each plate for a finished look. • Attach the metal hooks from the rear side of the plates. • Let it dry.
