Description :

A DIY that has varied techniques that can be learnt. A mixed media sling bag with a sea theme makes it different and unique. Add elements that are your favourite to customize and personalize your bag.

STEP 1 : Source the base

Take a plain cotton sling bag.

STEP 2 : Draw and trace the theme

Take an A4 white paper and draw a mermaid, trace the same in the center of the bag.

STEP 3 : Start painting the mermaid

Paint the mermaid using Fevicryl Fabric Colours – Flesh Tint 230 with a tinge of White 227.

STEP 4 : Enhancing the body of the mermaid

Place and stick multi-colored sequins and half cut pearls on the lower torso of the mermaid with Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Do so following the mermaid tracing. Allow it to dry.

STEP 5 : Woolen thread for the hair of the mermaid

To give it a mixed media feel, stick woolen threads to make long flowing hair strands for the mermaid. Stick using Fabric Glue.

STEP 6 : Making the braid

Neatly braid the hair into a thick plait.

STEP 7 : Enhancing the braid

Stick half cut pearls on the braid as seen in the image. Paint pretty motifs in the background of the bag using Fevicryl Fabric Colour - Chrome Yellow 203. Paint a phrase ‘Live in the sunshine’ using Black 02.

STEP 8 : Preparing the clay

Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to form an even soft dough.

STEP 9 : Shaping & texturing the clay

Handcraft a starfish and give it texture using clay tools. Make eye holes like that of buttons on the body of the starfish.

STEP 10 : Assembling & final touches

Paint the starfish using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours - Ultramarine Blue 23 and a tinge of White 27. Let it dry.

Place and stitch the starfish as seen in the image (the mermaid holding it).
