You Will Need:
Fevicryl Premium Fabric Glue, Foam Sheet. Buckram,Raw Silk Fabric,Golden Lace ½" Wide, Kowdi Shells, Beads (Dull Gold Colour), Pearl Beads, Transparent Poth (Small), Tikli (Dull Gold), Big Beads (For Tassel), Golden Yarn, Golden Cord/Dori, Needle, White Yarn, Mirrors (Small), Paper Scissors, Fabric Scissors, Flat Brush, Compass, Pencil, Scale, Fabric Chalk, Waste Cloth, Ohp Sheet, Paper Tape
Description :
Elegant and sophisticated kowdi potli bag with delicate mirrors, beads and shells made using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. The perfect bag to team up with your attire this Navratri.
STEP 1 : Base selection
- Take foam and buckram and cut circles from them measuring 2.5” in radius.
- Use paper scissors to cut them
STEP 2 : Fabric selection
- Take raw silk fabric and cut it into 2 circles measuring 3” radius.
- Take the same rawsilk fabric and cut 2 separate pieces measuring 7” x16”, 8” x 16.5”
- Use fabric scissors to cut them
STEP 3 : Sticking of base
- Take 1 raw silk circle and 1 buckram circle and stick them together.
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them together.
- Let it dry
STEP 4 : Sticking of foam
- Take the foam circular cutout and stick it on the rawsilk-buckram base.
- Stick the extra fabric around the foam on to it as shown in the image.
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them.
- Let it dry
STEP 5 : Second part of base
- Take the 2nd rawsilk and buckram circle and paste them together as seen in the image.
- Stick the excess rawsilk fabric on to the buckram by folding it from all sides as shown in the image.
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them.
- Let them dry
- Now both parts of the base is ready.
STEP 6 : Materials for tassels
- Take the materials shown in the image to make the tassels
STEP 7 : Lace cutting
- Take the golden lace and cut it to the size of the potli.
- Use fabric scissors to cut it.
STEP 8 : Making tassels
- Take an ohp sheet and secure the lace onto it by sticking it with paper tape on both sides as shown
- Make tiny tassels using needle, yarn, pearl beads and golden beads as seen in the image
- Make as many as possible and stick it on to the lace as seen in the image.
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them.
- Let it dry.
STEP 9 : Making more tassel strips
- Make 2 more such similar tassel strips as shown in the image
- Rotate the strip, take kowdi and stick it on the gold lace strip as shown in the image.
- Stick them on all 3 lace strips
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them.
- Let it dry.
STEP 10 : Making of the middle part of potli
- Take the fabric piece measuring 7” x16” and fold ½ inch on 2 sides as shown in the image
- Measure buckram in the same measurement and stick it on to the back I=of the raw silk piece.
- Use Fabric Glue to stick them.
STEP 11 : Sticking of lace strips
- Take the 3 lace strips and stick them on the raw silk piece which we prepared in the previous step.
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them
- Let them dry
STEP 12 : Sticking of mirrors
- Take the small mirrors and stick them on the raw silk piece as shown in the image.
- Use Fevicryl Fabric Glue to stick them
- Let them dry
STEP 13 : Preparing to stick base
- Turn the raw silk piece around and apply Fevicryl Fabric Glue at the bottom of the piece as shown.
STEP 14 : Sticking of foam base
- Take the base with foam and stick it to the rawsilk piece as shown in the image.
- Let it dry.
STEP 15 : Sticking of foam base
- Once the foam base is stuck, fold the extra raw silk fabric from the sides on to the foam base as shown.
- Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry
STEP 16 : Top part of potli
- Take the second cut rawsilk fabric measuring 8” x 16.5”.
- Measure 1 “on the sides and make 2 cuts as shown.
- Fold the cut slits inwards and stick them using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Fold the rest of the corner measuring ½".
- Make a cut in the center measuring 1” in length and fold the cut-out fabric on either side as shown.
- Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry
STEP 17 : Folding and sticking
- Fold the prepared piece in to half and stick them using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Make sure to apply glue only on the sides.
- Let it dry
STEP 18 : Overlapping
- Bring the two sides of the folded raw silk fabric together and overlap them as shown in the image.
- Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry.
STEP 19 : Sticking of the top part
- Stick the folded –overlapped top part on to the potli bag base as shown.
- Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry
STEP 20 : Finishing of base
- Take the 2nd prepared circular piece and stick it on the foam base as shown in the image
- Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry
STEP 21 : Mirrors and dori
- Stick the small mirrors on the top part of the potli bag as shown in the image
- Stick it using Fevicryl Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry
- Take a golden dori, add some beads at the edges to create a good finish and insert them in the slits that were created on the top part of the potli bag.
STEP 22 : Final Look
This elegant and sophisticated potli bag is ready to be used and teamed up with one of the many Navratri attires!
