Dokra Art Yaksha Frames

Yaksha’s are benevolent spirits that guard your space. Make these beautiful Yaksha frames with just a few Fevicryl products. Read more to learn how.

STEP 1 : Source the base
  • We are going to make the Dokra art frames with yaksha on the rectangular MDF placemat.
  • Take the plain rectangular placemat measuring approximately 7” x 9” in size.
STEP 2 : Mixing Mouldit
  • We are going to make two yaksha one with the spear and the other with the feather fan and frame using Mouldit.
  • Take the Mouldit resin base and hardener, mix it thoroughly to make even dough.
STEP 3 : Make the frame
  • Take the dough, roll it to make the medium thin slab with rolling pin.
  • Mark and cut the slab in to strips of 1” broad to make the frame on the border of the MDF base.
  • Stick the broad strips to make the frame on the edges with Fabric Glue. Let it dry.
  • Take some clay, roll it to make the coils out of it.
  • Make the design on the clay frame by sticking the coils aesthetically with Fabric Glue.
  • Leave it to dry completely.
  • Refer to the image.
STEP 4 : Make Yaksha figures
  • We are going to make the Yaksha figures out of the clay.
  • Take the clay, roll it to make the slab with rolling pin, draw and cut the outline of the Yaksha figure with the spear out of it.
  • Take the clay to make the coils. Stick the coils to form the crown of the yaksha, the garments, the jewellery, and decorate the spear using Fabric Glue.
  • Let it dry completely.
  • Refer to the image.
STEP 5 : Make two frames
  • Make two such Yaksha figures with clay.
  • Take the frame with MDF base and paint it with the rustic look using Acrylic Colour Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02, Crimson 04, Light Green 12, Orange 17, Turquoise Blue 22 and White 27.
  • Let it dry.
  • Refer to the image.
  • Stick the Yaksha on the frame with Fabric Glue.
  • Leave it to dry.
STEP 6 : Paint Yakshas and finishing
  • Paint the yaksha and the frame with the metal look using Pearl Metallic Gold 352.
  • Leave it to dry.
  • Your frames with Dokra art will look like this.
