Cement Knife With Miniature Painting
You Will Need:
Fevicryl Acrylic Colours Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02, Chrome Yellow 03, Crimson 04, Dark Brown 05, Dark Green 06, Golden Yellow 09, Maroon 14, Orange 17, Pink 18, Turquoise Blue 22, Ultramarine Blue 23, White 27, Salmon Pink 65, Fevicryl Mouldit, Fevicryl Fabric Glue, Fine Art Brushes, 16” x 20” Plywood, A3 White Paper, Cement Knife (3 Pieces), Straw, Yellow Carbon Paper, Pencil, Rolling Pin, Paper Cutter, Clay Carving Tools, Colour Palette, Water Container

A fusion of centuries old artwork and that too on a quirky base is what this project is all about. This is a statement décor piece for any living space and is sure to be a favourite.
STEP 1 : Source the base material
- Take plywood measuring 16” x 20” in size.
- We are going to make a wall décor in mixed media, using two Indian artforms; Miniature and Madhubani in tandem.
- Take an A3 white paper. Draw a lady inspired from Miniature paintings in the size of the cement knife.
- Draw a Madhubani border pattern in the size of plywood on paper.
STEP 2 : Paint the base coat
- Paint the plywood with Acrylic Colour - White 27.
- Let it dry.
STEP 3 : Draw and trace the design
- Trace the Madhubani border design all over the plank with yellow carbon paper.
- Refer to the image.
- Paint the plank with Acrylic Colours - Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02, Dark Brown 05 and White 27.
- Let it dry.
STEP 4 : Paint the base coat
- Take the three cement knives, paint the knives with a base coat of Acrylic Colour White 27.
- Let it dry.
STEP 5 : Paint the design
- Trace the Miniature painting design on the three knives with yellow carbon paper.
- Paint the Miniature lady figures, the background with small floral creepers and the handles of the knives with Acrylic Colours - Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02, Chrome Yellow 03, Crimson 04, Dark Brown 05, Dark Green 06, Golden Yellow 09, Maroon 14, Orange 17, Pink 18, Turquoise Blue 22, Ultramarine Blue 23, White 27 and Salmon Pink 65.
- Leave it to dry.
STEP 6 : Make the border
- We are going to make a border for the plank with Fevicryl Mouldit.
- Take Mouldit - resin base and hardener, mix it thoroughly to form an even dough.
- Roll it to make a slab with a rolling pin. Mark and cut a 1” broad strip from the slab.
- Stick the slab on the edges of the plank with Fabric Glue.
- Create and engrave a round design with a straw.
- Take some clay to make the floral trellis design on the four corners. Stick the floral trellis design on the corners with Fabric Glue.
STEP 7 : Final look
- Paint the border with an antique look using Acrylic Colours - Black and Pearl Metallic Gold 352.
- Let it dry.
- Attach the painted knives in the center of the plank with a little amount of the clay and Fabric Glue.
- Let it dry completely.
