Dos And Don’Ts Of Acrylic Pouring

Dos And Don’Ts Of Acrylic Pouring

What is acrylic pouring? It just the most fun way to create amazingly abstract art! It is beautiful and easy and is so inanely satisfying that everyone wants to do it.

Said that we need to be a bit cautious which doing this art else the end result might be something unexpected and well, not pretty.

Here are some dos and don’ts to follow:

  1. The first thing you might want to do is write down the combination of colours you would want to use and in what order. A green and an orange if used together might mix and give a dirty brown and we might want to avoid such mishaps.
  2. Have all the supplies ready before hand. Once you start pouring you may not be able to control or restrict the flow of the colour nor go back.
  3. There is chemistry behind mixing of the colours with medium and oil. Too much and too less of anything is not recommended. Follow the ratio and then sometimes instinct too!
  4. Do not rush..it takes time to get the hang of it!
  5. The surface on which the pouring is to be done as well the area should be clean to start with otherwise we might end up making it messier.
  6. Avoid water as they tend to break the polymer bonds in acrylic colours.
  7. Use good quality paints and avoid using cooking oil for cells as these oil oxidise quickly and go rancid.
  8. Don’t mix too little paint and then too much either. The paints should cover the canvas adequately.
  9. Wait for the paints to dry for good 24 to 48 hours. Too many canvases have been spoilt in haste.
  10. Have patience and remember beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
