Description :

Take a second and think before you discard anything, it might just be the perfect base to create something of utility in your homes. This DIY is a classic example of just that. We have recycled a tin container into a quirky and cute plant holder.

STEP 1 : Source the base

Take a tin container and clean it well.

STEP 2

Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut out a window in the centre as you see in the image. Take care while doing this as the edges will be sharp.

STEP 3 : Preparing the dough

Take Fevicryl Mouldit – resin base & hardener, mix well to make a soft even dough. Roll it into a medium thin slab using a rolling pin. The pigs would be made with this dough slab.

STEP 4 : Building the plant holder

Take the dough, border the window using clay carving tools, stick using Fevicryl Fabric Glue. Create a texture that resembles natural wood.

STEP 5 : Paint the base

Apply a generous layer of Fevicryl 3D Outliner – White 707, on the periphery of the tin.

STEP 6 : Combing effect technique

While still wet, run a comb all along the periphery of the tin, to create a combed effect.

STEP 7 : Making the pigs

Take the dough slab, using a paper cutter, cut out shapes of little pig faces. Make the snout, ears and little feet using the same clay and stick appropriately using Fabric Glue.

STEP 8 : Paint the Tin

Paint the periphery of the container using Fevicyl Acrylic Colours - Burnt Sienna 01, Black 02 and Dark Brown 05, to get a gold burnished look. Paint the pig faces using Pink 18 with a tinge of White 27. Let it dry.

STEP 9 : Finishing touches

Paint the facial features for the pigs using Black 02, White 27, Teal Blue 68 and Salmon Pink 65. Your cute little plant holder is now ready.
