Family is where the heart is! Family is where we being our journey and most of the time our family is with us when we leave. This project is an easy newspaper wall hanging craft. It is a cute DIY inspiration for Family Day which says ‘Family is where our story beings’. Made from newspaper rolls this indeed is best use of the waste. STEP 1

At the onset we take loads of newspaper and roll individual sheets to make ½” broad strips. Secure the ends with Fabric Glue. You will need about 50 to 60 strips to make the heart.

STEP 2

Then we will roll the newspaper strips to make the coils. Secure the ends with Fabric Glue and leave them to dry completely. There will be some small coil and then there will be some big coils.

STEP 3

We will then use a corrugated box flap to make the base for the coils. Draw a square measuring 12” x 12” in size on the flap. Draw and cut a heart shape out of it.

STEP 4

Paint the heart shape using Acrylic Colour Black 02. Let it dry. You can use any colour of your choice to paint the base.

STEP 5

We will then stick the newspaper coils on the heart shape using Fabric Glue. First place the coils on the base to ensure that there are enough coils to cover it and then paste them. Let it dry.

STEP 6

Then paint the news paper rolls first with Acrylic Colour White 27 and keep it for drying. After drying paint it with Acrylic Colour Neon Yellow 011, Green 012, Orange 017 and Pink 018, and leave it to dry.

STEP 7

Now, take the red card paper, draw a square measuring 10” x 10” in size. Draw and cut the heart shape out of it. Write a message for the family, like this one “family is where our story begins” using Acrylic Colour White 27. Let it dry.

STEP 8

In a similar manner draw and cut few small sized hearts measuring approximately 4” x 4” in size. Make about 10 such hearts. Take a piece of corrugated box flap, draw and cut 5 similar hearts from it. Stick the corrugated heart in between the two red hearts made from the card paper using Fabric Glue. For dangling stick a red satin ribbon in between the layer. Outline each heart using 3 D Neon Outliners Yellow, Orange and Green. Leave it to dry.

STEP 9

We will stick the big heart cutout in the center of the neon heart by giving it a raised effect by using a two way tape.

STEP 10

We now assemble everything together. Stick small hearts on the rear side of the big heart using Fabric Glue. Make a small ribbon loop at the top on the rear side for hanging. Secure it with Fabric Glue and let it dry thoroughly. Write small quotes on the small hearts for each family member, with Acrylic Colour White 27. Leave it to dry.
