Make these set of coasters and placemats using the tie and qye effect with the leaf prints. Tie and dye the fabric, dry the fabric under the sun with an actual leaf placed on the fabric to get subtle leaf prints with a bleached effect.

how to do it yourself

STEP 1:-

Take a cotton fabric
Cut small squares measuring 4” x 5” inches in size
Cut two big squares measuring 12” x 12” inches for the placemat
You may cut the placemats in rectangular shapes if you desire

STEP 2:-

Place each cut square, flat on the surface and pick it up from the centre
Gather the fabric and tie it with threads for dyeing
Wet the tied cloth evenly and remove the extra water from the cloth
Colour the cloth in a gradation using Acrylic Colours starting from yellow to orange then to crimson from the centre towards the edges

STEP 3:-

Leave the cloth tied for sometime and then remove the threads
Keep the fabric flat for drying in the sun with leaves arranged and placed on the wet fabric
Leave it to dry completely
Once dried you will get the leaf prints on the fabric in a bleached effect

STEP 4:-

You may get the coasters and the placemats stitched from a tailor with a nice cotton lining
