Fabric Painting need no introduction. It has been around for some time now with Ancient Egyptians being the first ones to try coloring the clothes they wore. With the advent of acrylic colors painting on fabrics has become so much easier and trendy too. To say simply, fabric painting is the process of putting paints to fabric. Then there are myriad ways, which are called techniques, with which one can paint on a fabric. One can paint on almost all types of fabric material but the best ones are the ones made from natural fibers like cotton, khadi and silk.

 

Painting on fabric is so much fun! You can create attractive designs and pep up your clothes by adding bright colors to them. Find something from your closet that you were about to throw away, like an old t- shirt and let us get started.

 

To learn how to do fabric painting, apart from, apart from Fevicryl Fabric Colours we need a few things like:

  • Paintbrushes: both flat and round-tip, in various sizes
  • Foam Brushes/ Sponges
  • Water container
  • Plastic covering to protect the work surface and a board/ plastic sheet to place in between the layers of fabric
  • Apron to protect your clothing
  • Paint pallets
  • Paper towels

 

How to do fabric painting? Here are the steps:

  1. Prepare the fabric. The fabric should be sans starch and ironed.
  2. The area to be painted should be kept stretched either by taping it or by using an embroidery ring.
  3. Choose the design and transfer it to the fabric to be painted.
  4. Fill in the colours.
  5. Let it dry.
  6. The colours become wash proof after seven days.
